SonicPool Becomes Preferred 4K Vendor for Overhaulin’
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) March 23, 2015 -- Due to the exceptional 4K/UHD work on the popular Discovery series “Overhaulin’”, BCII has made SonicPool Post Production their preferred vendor for 4K/UHD Post.
SonicPool Post Production previously worked with BCII on SCORE International and Animal Storm Squad. SonicPool has also worked with Discovery on Mountain Monsters, Home Made Simple and Pitbulls & Parolees. They were approached last summer by BCII to see if Discovery’s specs could be met. Jason Yanuzzi, Director of Picture Services at SonicPool says that despite the large amounts of data storage for the show (each episode consumed roughly 45 terabytes of data) and a quick turnaround for finish, SonicPool was able to provide a timely and cost effective solution: “This would mean exorbitant storage costs for most post facilities and overtime for the quick turnaround, but because of our unique storage setup and workflow, we were able to do this at a very reasonable price. “
Each camera master was backed up to Discovery’s 4K/LTO specs. The show was later conformed and color corrected in 4K at 60p, with an additional HD Master. The process, beginning late last November, had a deadline of less than one week. Yanuzzi says that SonicPool’s unique workflow and capabilities aided in speeding up the color correction process. He says, “In the past, the RAW camera files would have to be converted to DPX due to the computer’s processing speeds of the RAW data. Our recent system upgrades have made 60P raw very easy to work with. The great benefit here is that any project that is shot in 4k, 5k, RED, ARRI, SONY RAW and Black Magic’s DMG, can be future-proofed by working in 4K and merely scaling it down to HD for your current set of deliverables. The best part is that cost differential is significantly smaller than re-posting from 2k/HD to 4K.”
