South Carolina Attorney Provides 2016 Scholarship Opportunity
Columbia, SC (PRWEB) March 10, 2016 -- The Louthian Law Firm, a well-respected personal injury and whistleblower legal practice in the Midlands region of South Carolina, announced today that one first-year law student will receive a $1,000 legal scholarship on August 1, 2016. The scholarship is designed to encourage and reward creative authorship.
“Being a lawyer is not all courtroom drama the way it is on TV. Most people don’t realize how important writing skills are for an attorney,” Louthian commented. “Clearly and accurately informing all kinds of audiences is critical when you work in the legal profession, whether it is someone inquiring about your services, a current client, an investigator, a judge, or a jury. You need to be able to communicate with a wide variety of people, both face-to-face and using the written word.”
Those who apply for the scholarship must be U.S. citizens or otherwise authorized to work in the U.S., must be beginning law school (starting as a 1L) in August of 2016, and must have written an article that was published in a newspaper, magazine, professional blog or academic publication. The article can have been published either digitally or in print. The subject matter does not necessarily need to be related to the law; its main purpose should be informational.
Applicants must submit a completed scholarship application form, a copy of their acceptance letter from law school, and a copy of their previously-published article or a link to its online location. All materials must be received by May 1, 2016. Applicants will be judged on their creativity, originality, and their ability to clearly and succinctly convey a complex message in writing.
Applications can be submitted on the Louthian Law Firm’s website by May 1, 2016. The successful aspirant will be notified by June 15, 2016. The candidate who wins the $1,000 award, which will help defray their expenses and tuition, will have the award mailed directly to their law school by August 1, 2016. It is expected that the recipient will comply with applicable tax laws.
“We know all too well how costly an education is these days, especially in a professional graduate school. We are quite happy to offer this encouragement to new law students,” said Louthian. “This scholarship award is a first for our firm. We hope to repeat the offer in future years, because encouraging young people is of the utmost importance to us.”
