SPARC Announces Cloud Collaboration with Red Hat Around OpenShift PaaS
Charleston, SC (PRWEB) July 09, 2013 -- SPARC, which provides software development services for the government and commercial sectors and develops commercial software products, today announced a collaboration with Red Hat, Inc., the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, focused on enabling the use of cloud throughout the federal government. Through the collaboration, SPARC is utilizing Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat’s Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering, for its internal demo team and for testing with its internal customers.
Headquartered in Charleston, S.C., SPARC boasts a culture of innovation and adoption of the latest technologies such as OpenShift for PaaS and OpenStack for Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), and an alignment with the open source community mirroring the same commitment of Red Hat. The collaboration between the two companies is a key strategy in SPARC’s government and commercial services businesses, and has enabled SPARC to hit the ground running. OpenShift’s auto-scaling cloud application platform enables developers to launch new ideas quickly while the platform automatically handles the provisioning, security, and scalability functions required. Built on a stack composed completely of Red Hat technologies, OpenShift delivers the velocity, efficiency, and scalability of cloud computing with the strength and stability of enterprise-class technologies.
“When SPARC first started, we were attracted to Red Hat’s respect and reputation in the industry for trusted technology and positive developer experience,” said Bob Williams, CTO, SPARC. “Both of our organizations share similar philosophies and support for the open source community, and we’re proud to be engaging with innovative technologies like OpenStack and OpenShift. Our engineers absolutely love working with Red Hat, as they get tons of support and get to focus on what they do best: develop amazing software.”
SPARC has embraced both OpenStack and OpenShift, using and integrating PaaS with IaaS through the use of private cloud, public cloud and complementary products. The service-oriented model of these platforms allow for greater flexibility and avoid vendor tie-ins, while OpenStack’s private IaaS and platform-agnostic standards have enabled SPARC to be agile in its technology deployments. OpenShift’s PaaS model has allowed SPARC to deploy applications easily, and the OpenStack infrastructure is easily deployed and maintained using Crowbar. This ease-of-deployment means that developers can focus on the core requirements of the project, not the server environments. In the future, SPARC intends to use Red Hat’s OpenStack distribution in production for ease of deployment, allowing developers to focus on core project requirements instead of server environments.
“Our work with SPARC focuses on bringing new capabilities to the federal government through the power of the cloud," said Ashesh Badani, general manager, Cloud and OpenShift, Red Hat. “With the flexibility, ease of use and performance of OpenShift, our PaaS solution, SPARC is able to help government developers to focus on software development.”
