Spaulding Academy & Family Services Opens Wednesday House
Spaulding Academy & Family Services (formerly Spaulding Youth Center) has opened Wednesday House, a transitional housing option for children in its care. The first of its kind for the organization, Wednesday House provides children the opportunity to live in a home-like environment while awaiting foster care placement or returning to their families.
NORTHFIELD, N.H., March 10, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Spaulding Academy & Family Services (formerly Spaulding Youth Center) has opened Wednesday House, a transitional housing option for children in its care. The first of its kind for the organization, Wednesday House provides children the opportunity to live in a home-like environment while awaiting foster care placement or returning to their families.
Wednesday House now serves six children ages six to 16 – with capacity for ten children – in a home and in-law apartment that Spaulding Academy & Family Services recently purchased and renovated. They learn independent living skills, including laundry and cooking, under the supervision of the 24-hour on-site residential staff. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the residents currently participate in remote learning on campus through their home school districts and supported by staff.
"We're grateful to Spaulding for developing this new program, which will allow young people the opportunity to stay connected with their home schools and communities, while DCYF continues to work toward finding permanency for the children living in Wednesday House," said Joseph Ribsam, director of the Division of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) at the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services. "DCYF is always looking for more foster parents, particularly those willing to serve adolescents, sibling groups, and children with special needs."
Wednesday House is located adjacent to the Spaulding Academy & Family Services campus on nearly 13 acres of land, which is connected by walking trails. Residents have access to services from Spaulding Academy & Family Services clinicians, family workers, board certified behavior analysts (BCBA), and nurses.
