SGC, one of the most trusted grading and authentication services for sports memorabilia collectors worldwide, is pleased to introduce its new uniform authentication division led by renowned uniform authenticator Dave Grob. Effective immediately, SGC will be accepting uniform submissions for authentication.

“SGC is excited to bring the new uniform authentication service to our customers and welcome Dave Grob to our growing team of esteemed grading and authentication experts,” said SGC CEO Dave Forman. “When it comes to uniforms, collectors throughout the hobby value Grob’s opinion above all others. It is his level of professionalism and the customer confidence he delivers that will form the bedrock of SGC’s vintage Major League Baseball uniform authentication service.”

Described by the Smithsonian Institution as “the nation’s foremost authenticator of vintage Major League Baseball uniforms,” Grob has almost single-handedly revolutionized the field by pioneering the application of imagery analysis techniques and introducing standardized research processes to define and leverage objective data for uniform authentication.

Grob was the expert behind the authentication of the famous 1920 Babe Ruth road jersey that was sold for a record-breaking $4,415,658 in 2012. It was the quality and objectivity of his work that enabled the same jersey to since be resold at an even higher price. The current estimated market value of the jersey is in excess of 10 million dollars, which makes it quite possibly the most valuable piece of sports memorabilia in existence.

A published author, Grob has written extensively on the subject, including the co-authored “Game-Worn,” an award-nominated book about the world's most coveted baseball uniforms. To date, Grob’s research and findings have enabled collectors to recover hundreds of thousands of dollars on previously purchased and wrongfully authenticated uniforms.

SGC will showcase its new uniform authentication division during the upcoming 39th Annual National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, August 1-5, 2018.
