St. Helena Parish School System Partners with Online Education Service Company to Build Tuition-Free Virtual Academy

(PLI), a virtual staffing service company connecting highly qualified teachers with students in grades K-12, is proud to announce a new partnership with St. Helena Parish School System (SHPSS) establishing a virtual academy for students in grades 6-12.
Through St. Helena's partnership, middle and high school students will be able to access live, interactive instruction from state-certified teachers remotely via any internet connected device. St. Helena will provide the curriculum and schedule for classes and Proximity Learning will provide the teachers as well as the Chromebooks and headsets for participating students.

Proximity's virtual schools are designed with school districts and offer a tuition-free public education to all students, including those with disabilities and special needs, as well as those who are financially restricted or prefer homeschooling. Students with incomplete credits or that desire to graduate early are also welcomed to attend the academy to complete their high school diploma.

In addition to providing state certified teachers and accredited courses, the virtual academy will also provide one-on-one tutoring and parent teacher conferences.
Proximity currently provides teachers in St. Helena high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools across the parish. The classes are streamed into physical classrooms at the academy and a Proximity-trained classroom facilitator is both physically present in the room, as well as in the online environment to monitor student activity. The classroom facilitator monitors student behavior, provides encouragement, and assists the Proximity teacher as needed.
