NEW YORK, Sept. 14, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Started Companies, Inc., a public-benefit corporation, in collaboration with the American Journalism Online Master's program at New York University, today announced the New Media Hyper-Accelerator.
This collaboration results in an online business accelerator focused on innovation in new media, journalism, entertainment, and connectivity that will enable participating companies to work in a creative environment together with mentors in venture capital, tech, media, as well as from NYU faculty and staff. Each of the ten companies selected from around the globe will, with the help of a team of mentors, explore every aspect of their business as well as expose their company to potential investors, journalists, and strategic partners -- all virtually. Rolling admissions begin immediately with final selections concluding in early October. Applications are open at https://www.started.com/new-media-accelerator
Students enrolled in NYU's New Media Startup and News Innovation class will embed with each startup to learn every facet of launching and sustaining a media business. Each of the selected companies will have a profile article written and by journalism students, and the potential of NYU creating an immersive case study on their organization for use in the classroom: Think "Shark Tank" meets Higher Education.
The next equity-free, 5-day Accelerator program will run from October 19 - 23, 2020. It provides mentorship, coaching, legal services, sales consulting, and business development, broad awareness in the tech industry, among other resources. It is designed to help media entrepreneurs who have a product in the market and demonstrated traction accelerate their companies further, culminating in a "Shark Tank" where companies will present in front of an unparalleled network of angel and venture capital investors.
"We are pleased to join forces with Started," said Professor Adam L. Penenberg, founder and director of NYU's American Journalism Online Master's program. "As one of the first online journalism master's programs, we seek to graduate the next generation of great journalists to change the world. This collaboration with Started will enable our students to embed with exciting, emerging media startups from around the globe while they witness firsthand every aspect of starting and running a media business in today's fast-changing landscape. Too few journalists understand the business of media. This is experiential learning at its finest."
"Over the last decade, we've developed a highly-skilled, highly-motivated army of entrepreneurs by granting access to tech ecosystems like New York and California," said Ash Kaluarachchi of Started. "While our focus has been to bring people, organizations, and funders together to improve the opportunities and outcomes in the global education and workforce community, we are excited to expand our focus to include the media sector -- that's what this partnership between NYU and Started is all about."
