State of Alabama Introduces License Plate Image for Linemen with Logo Designed by WordSouth
A logo designed by WordSouth based on concepts from Wiregrass Electric Cooperative has made its way onto an official state license plate design, thanks to the Energy Institute of Alabama.
RAINSVILLE, Ala., Aug. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A logo designed by WordSouth based on concepts from Wiregrass Electric Cooperative has made its way onto an official state license plate design, thanks to the Energy Institute of Alabama.
Hartford-based Wiregrass Electric Cooperative strives each year to recognize their line crews during Alabama Lineman Appreciation Day. For years, the cooperative has worked with Rainsville-based WordSouth to create custom graphics for the event. Now, one of those graphics is being used on a new Alabama speciality license plate honoring lineman across the state. The logo was designed by WordSouth, based off concepts provided by Wiregrass Electric Cooperative. The cooperative shared the logo with the Energy Institute of Alabama, which has continued to use it in their marketing efforts.
Using the WordSouth-designed logo, officials at the Energy Institute of Alabama unveiled the "Thank A Lineman" license plate in June at the Lineman Appreciation Day celebration at the Alabama Power Company Gunter Park Crew Headquarters.
Lineman Appreciation Day was designated as the first Monday in June by the Alabama Legislature in 2014.
"We are proud of our lineman and recognize their commitment to this cooperative and our members whenever we can," said WEC's Chief Operating Officer Brad Kimbro. "Lineman Appreciation Day helps us honor these hometown heroes, and our communications partner, WordSouth, helps us with that event by creating artwork at our direction.
"We were honored to have that same artwork chosen by the Energy Institute of Alabama in its mission of advocacy for reliable, affordable energy," Kimbro added. "We are excited to see that artwork being displayed on a special license plate that will help fund charities that support linemen across the state."
More than 2,000 linemen work for power companies and cooperatives in Alabama, helping keep the lights on for more than one million residents. Alabama lineman have been called on to restore power after natural disasters as far away as New England, Louisiana and South Carolina. Internationally, the crews have answered the call to help in Haiti and Guatemala.
