Waste Not, Want Not This Season with Local Charity Taking on LA Food Insecurity Crisis
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 22, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Geoff Stover, a partner of the Los Angeles law firm Steinbrecher & Span LLP, has been selected to serve on the Board of Los Angeles nonprofit Food Finders, a 501c3 food organization with a mission to rescue food, reduce hunger and improve nutrition in the communities of Southern California.
According to the USDA, more than 34 million people in the United States, which includes 9 million children, are facing food insecurity. The USDA further notes that the pandemic has significantly increased food insecurity among families with children and communities of color, who already faced hunger at much higher rates before the pandemic.
According to the California Association of Food Banks, California produces nearly half of the nation's fruits and vegetables. However, 1 in 5 Californians currently struggle with food insecurity. "Food insecurity" is defined as the occasional or constant lack of access to the food needed for a healthy and active life.
"I've seen firsthand the power and impact Food Finders cultivates through community volunteers, events, fundraisers and through their everyday operations. I'm humbled to play a small part in their mission to serve as well as elevate awareness of the critical work needed and being activated in our community," said Stover. "Actively supporting Food Finders can impact those hungry today along with generations to come, significantly easing food insecurities our city has faced for years."
