Encryption is vital to the safety of the medical data, but what’s more, patients will have control over that data like never before.
The technology being used will connect to existing electronic medical records around the world and allow patients to determine what personal and private information they wish to share, with whom, and when they wish it to be made available. Patients will no longer have to request a file transfer from their family physician. They will have the power to move their medical records around as needed in order to work with the stem cell specialists that they choose.
Hyperledger Fabric is the platform with which the second blockchain system is being assembled. The team recognized shortcomings in being able to conduct transactions and transfer files in one blockchain-based environment, so they are developing a custom solution.
The SCIApplication, which is the platform that SCI is creating, will also provide the collection, verification, and storage of information related to stem cell purchases, shipping, treatments, and storage. Cord blood banking will be available and users of the application will be able to use the SCIA Token to purchase cord blood banking kits, have them shipped directly to them, and then sent to one of the company’s storage facilities around the world.
