New book tells the story of a clever and successful businesswoman who became America's first female executive of a major retail establishment

She was initially hired for her skill with numbers, but she proved to be a savvy business woman who was full of innovative ideas including the addition of a toy department at the store and the suggestion for Macy's to use a red star as its iconic logo.
