DELAND, Fla., Sept. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Stetson University ranks No. 5 on U.S. News & World Report's 2020 Best Colleges list of Best Regional Universities – South, released today. In addition, Stetson appears on five additional lists in the same category: Best Undergraduate Teaching, No. 11; Best Value Schools, No. 11; Most Innovative Universities, No. 14; Campus Ethnic Diversity, No. 34; and a new list this year, Top Performers on Social Mobility, No. 36.
"It is especially gratifying to see Stetson recognized for its excellent teaching, innovation and diversity," said Stetson President Wendy B. Libby, PhD. "We pride ourselves on providing a superb education at a very good price, so I'm not surprised that we have made the Best Value list again. It's exciting to be on the inaugural 'Top Performers' list for an issue as important to our society as social mobility. It's another feather in our cap."
Stetson emphasizes active learning with a low undergraduate student-teacher ratio of 13:1. Sixty-two percent of classes have fewer than 20 students and only one percent of classes have 50 or more students. Fifty-four percent of first-year students finished in the top quarter of their high school graduating class.
Schools in the Regional Universities category are defined by U.S. News & World Report as offering a full range of undergraduate programs and some master's programs but few doctoral programs. Stetson offers master's degrees in business, education and counseling.
In February, U.S. News & World Report ranked Stetson University College of Law No. 1 for Trial Advocacy and No. 3 for Legal Writing in the United States. Stetson has been ranked the top law school for Trial Advocacy 21 times in 25 years, and has consistently ranked among the top six legal writing programs since the inception of the Legal Writing rankings in 2005.
Multiple national recognitions are "a testament to Stetson's innovation and the dedicated work of our staff and faculty," said Libby, referring to Stetson University being named a top university by Princeton Review's Top 385 Colleges, Money's Best Colleges, Forbes' America's Top Colleges.
