DELAND, Fla., Sept. 26, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Stetson University welcomed 934 new first-time-in-college students to campus this fall, a 4.4% increase over last year. It is the second-largest incoming class in the history of the 136-year-old university, according to Stetson's Office of Institutional Research. Stetson's largest entering class came in 2015 with 983 students, most of whom just graduated in May.
Total Fall 2019 enrollment at Stetson is 4,429 (all campuses), 2.0% higher than last year. Accounting for the increase is a 1.0% uptick in total undergraduate students to 3,183, and an increase of 4.6% in graduate students to 1,246. Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport reported 927 students enrolled this fall, up from 896 a year ago.
The university conducts an official census each September and reports the enrollment information to the federal government, college guides and other sources.
"When students and parents are making decisions, three things stand out," said Joel Bauman, vice president of Enrollment Management, "a university's academic reputation, graduate schools and careers that education can lead to, and the demonstrated value of a private education in developing students' independence and self-confidence.
"Stetson's highly regarded faculty, student outcomes and state-of-the-art financial planning has drawn in an incredible Class of 2023. I expect great things," he continued, noting that Stetson is a "Best Value" and "most innovative" university according to U.S. News and World Report.
Other factors supporting enrollment strength are the addition of Air Force ROTC, a new Hillel and Jewish studies minor, new minors in sustainable food systems and sport business, a cybersecurity program, an online-only MBA, a joint MBA/MHA with AdventHealth University and a tax track for the Master of Accounting.
