Stone Terrace Bed and Breakfast to Host First Tour and Tea Event

EVANSTON, Ill. (PRWEB) April 20, 2018 -- Stone Terrace Bed and Breakfast, the luxury bed and breakfast located at 1622 Forest Place in Evanston, Illinois will host an event called Tour and Tea: Meet the Ladies of Stone Terrace on Sunday, April 22 at 2 p.m.

Visitors will tour the bed and breakfast through the stories of five historic Evanston women; each named after a room or suite at Stone Terrace. Then, a traditional high tea will be served in the home’s formal dining room.

To complement the event, the Evanston Arts Group will show a presentation highlighting these and other women who helped shape Evanston and made an impact on the community. The event can accommodate from 20 to 50 people and tickets are $40 per person.

“The Tour and Tea is perfect for a special group outing and those interested in history, architecture and enjoying time with friends over traditional tea and crumpets,” said Sue Zipprich, innkeeper and co-owner of Stone Terrace Bed and Breakfast and the hostess for the Tour and Tea.

Stone Terrace Bed and Breakfast is a Tudor-style house that features an elegant living room, an adjoining sunroom, a formal dining room, a morning room and a magnificent outdoor terrace. A grand library is featured on the mezzanine level. The second floor features a guest center, guest laundry and five guest suites with private baths. The lower level includes a media theater, billiard room, exercise room and Zen massage room.

The suites are named after Frances Willard, Caro Blymer Dawes, Dr. Isabella Garnett, Mary Chaplin Glenn and Florence Walrath. Each made an impact on the Evanston community.

  • Frances Willard – (1877 - 1958), who founded one of Illinois most reputable adoption agencies - The Cradle - in 1923. This spacious room features a king size bed, original fireplace, an adjoining sunroom with a stunning view of Lake Michigan, bathroom with a walk-in shower and soaking tub.
  • Caro Blymer Dawes – (1866 - 1957), wife of vice president of the United States, Charles Dawes, Blymer Dawes was instrumental in founding the Children’s Home and Aid Society of Illinois. A bold statement in comfort, this suite provides an elegantly modern take on the bed and breakfast experience.
  • Dr. Isabella Garnett – (1872 - 1948) was one of the first African-American physicians, and founder of the Evanston Sanitarium and Training School. The suite is fitted with a queen bed and accented with a beautiful fireplace that plays off the touches of red, which is prominent throughout the room. The room also comes with a luxurious bathroom that features a walk-in shower, soaking bath, and all marble floors and counters.
  • Mary Chaplin Glenn – (1892 - 1972) was one of the first women in uniform to serve her country as an ambulance driver in World War I. Peaceful and serene, this suite is the only room in the house appointed with two full beds. The room comes with a cozy fireplace that complements the soft wall color, natural light, marble floors and a luxurious bathroom.
  • Florence Walrath – (1839 - 1898) Walrath was the president of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. This gracious suite features a queen bed, a private outdoor terrace, and a luxurious bathroom with a walk-in shower and soaking tub.
