Now holding eight issued patents, StorageDefender continues to invent, invest in, and protect the innovations behind its mission to lead in smart unit monitoring for self-storage.
DENTON, Texas, Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- StorageDefender Inc., the pioneer of Smart Units as a service for the self-storage industry, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued U.S. Patent No. 12,694,738, "Devices, systems, and methods for monitoring controlled spaces for transitory uses." The patent was granted on July 28, 2026.
This is the third patent issued to StorageDefender in 2026 and the eighth in the company's portfolio to date, with additional applications pending. It belongs to the same patent family as the company's earlier grants relating to individual monitoring of controlled spaces such as self-storage units. That area of development began with StorageDefender's first patent filings in January 2019 and now extends across Smart Storage Units, Smart Zones, and the company's broader smart facility platform.
"We have been building and protecting this technology since the beginning," said Nathan Wright, CTO of StorageDefender and a named inventor on the patent. "This grant strengthens a portfolio that we intend to keep growing."
