ALPHARETTA, Ga., Dec. 19, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As part of their 9th annual Fall Fundraiser, the Alpharetta Ambush Soccer Club donated $5,000 to The Summit Counseling Center in November. The Summit Counseling Group offers professional school counseling services and supports the mental health of children and their families. The Fall Fundraiser revolved around selling game day jerseys, that feature the logo of The Summit Counseling Center, to members of the Alpharetta Ambush Soccer Club teams. There was a 100% participation rate from all 42 of the soccer club teams and a number of independent donations were also received.
To unveil an over-sized presentation check in the amount of $5,000, four Alpharetta Ambush Soccer Club players visited the corporate offices of The Summit Counseling Center. The players prepared a shared speech and collaborated to present their donation to members of The Summit Counseling Center team. They were joined by Club President, Doug Yearwood.
"Along with the Ambush coaching staff, we are constantly trying to find ways to do something different with our players other than the normal 'soccer stuff,' " said Doug Yearwood, Club President, Alpharetta Ambush Soccer Club. "And that's why this day each year is my favorite day of the year. Watching young, motivated, enthusiastic Ambush players of all ages visit an intimidating corporate environment, stand in front of adults they've just met for the first time in their lives, and deliver perfectly executed speech… well let's just say that's as rewarding as watching one of our teams win the league or win a tournament! I'm very proud of each and every Ambush player at the Club and they never cease to amaze me!"
"It is heart-warming to receive this generous donation from the players and families of Alpharetta Ambush," says Shawn Murphy, Director of Development, The Summit Counseling Center. "These funds will be used to subsidize counseling services for The Summit's school-based counseling program, allowing kids in the community to receive counseling services that they otherwise could not afford."
The Summit will also be providing Signs of Suicide Trusted Adult training to the Ambush coaching staff on January 10th. The role of a trusted adult is to build rapport and trust with the youth, routinely check in, invite difficult conversations, and connect the student and family to mental health resources if needed. "A trusted adult is any person that is invested in a youth's life. It might be their aunt/uncle, coach, camp director, dance instructor, teacher, youth leader, or next door neighbor," stated Whitney Emrick, Mental Health Awareness Coordinator, The Summit Counseling Center. "Our goal is to equip every trusted adult in our community with the tools and resources needed to respond to a youth mental health crisis."
