Sumus Directs Device Acquisition for Practicon Dental Supply
Cary, North Carolina (PRWEB) June 25, 2015 -- Sumus, a business advisory firm led by veteran merger-and acquisition leader Jim Baker, directed the acquisition of a dental device for Practicon, an international dental supply firm based in Greenville, N.C.
Practicon acquired E-Prop, an intraoral mouth prop that holds a standard disposable suction tip, from Better Dental Products in Omaha, NE. Designed by a dental hygienist, the device maintains an open mouth for dental procedures while perfectly positioning the saliva ejector. The sale closed on May 29.
The transaction demonstrates the flexibility of Sumus, an advisory firm helping biotech, pharmaceutical and medically oriented companies fine-tune growth strategies or prepare for mergers and acquisitions. “We have the negotiation and M&A experience to offer expertise involving devices, products or companies,” Baker said. Sumus provides M&A and valuation services for companies as well as medical devices.
“The Sumus team was with us every step of the way during our first major acquisition,” said Scott Griffin, CEO of Practicon. “From initial contact through some difficult, detailed negotiations, the Sumus team provided the perfect blend of coaching and taking charge.”
About Sumus: Founded by Jim Baker, an entrepreneur with more than 25 years of international business success, Sumus is focused on helping firms grow organically as well as through acquisition of companies, devices and products. Sumus specializes in exit strategy planning and guidance. The firm also advises on board make-up as well as organizational and branding strategy. The word sumus, which originates from Latin, was chosen because of its reference to the “sum” of all parts.
About Practicon: The remarkable success of a dental patient education and outreach program launched in North Carolina led to Practicon’s incorporation in 1982. Initially providing practice management and marketing services with a few related products, the company’s continued growth was due to a significant expansion of what it terms “practical innovations for dentistry” – everyday products developed to be relevant and useful for improving patient care, practice productivity, and fun. From its first 50-product flier in 1985, today Practicon markets thousands of products through its full-line catalog, website, telesales, and worldwide network of dental distributors. A privately held, family-oriented company with more than 60 employees, Practicon holds eight U.S. patents with others pending.
