Sunglasses That May Repair Vision for the First Time
SAN ANTONIO (PRWEB) October 26, 2017 -- Photoprotective Technologies, Inc. has been issued a US Patent. 9,726,910 for sunglass lenses that contain fluorescent dyes that absorb part of the sunlight and convert it into red and near infrared light that has been shown to repair cells and tissue. Also called Photobiomodulation – or simply PBM – red light therapy was used recently by researchers to reverse damage to the retina of laboratory animals, but with light from red LED’s.
Unlike any other lens technology, these patented lenses will offer the promise to repair damaged retina cells and potentially reduce wrinkles around the eye. Demonstrating a history of innovation in the eye care and skin care industry, PPT developed patented technologies in the 1990’s to incorporate melanin into plastic ophthalmic lenses to utilize the vision-protecting characteristics of melanin light filtration. Although further product development is needed, PPT believes the new PBM-based lens technology could appear in sunglasses as early as the summer of 2018.
