PENNASAUKEN, N.J., Aug. 21, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Sunset Memorial Park recently completed construction of a mausoleum at the Pennsauken cemetery. To conserve space for long-term use by the community, Sunset Memorial Park's new mausoleum will be the final resting place for dozens of Camden residents.
Sunset Memorial Park currently offers in-ground burial services as well as above-ground crypts. The introduction of the option of a mausoleum will give families the opportunity to find exactly what they want for their loved one.
The mausoleum is built up to seven levels and includes niches for cremation. Mausoleums address financial challenges many families face upon the death of a loved one, as they provide an affordable alternative to in-ground burials. In comparison, in-ground burials require one to purchase the grave, a vault to place the casket in, a fee to open the grave, and a monument. When these costs are added together, they are typically more than the cost of a mausoleum crypt that includes the crypt (vault) and memorial (crypt front).
Louis Cicalese, cemetery president, noted upon completion of the mausoleum, "The new mausoleum addresses the need for more affordable burial options, plus it will conserve green space to extend the life of the cemetery."
Sunset memorial park is open to all but serves primarily as the final resting place for those in the local area. Notably, Arnold Cream, known famously as "Jersey Joe" Walcott is buried here. Walcott was a professional boxer who held the heavyweight title in the 1950's and was the first African-American to be elected as Sheriff of Camden County following his successful boxing
career.
