Surface Media, inclusive of legacy content brands Surface and Watch Journal, is excited to announce the recent hiring of Gabrielle Golenda as the company’s News Editor. Golenda brings more than seven years of editorial experience to the Surface team and will be focusing on long-form multimedia series and news content that combines investigative journalism, compelling visual storytelling, and topical subject matter.

As Surface’s resident “product-expert,” Golenda will spearhead much of the content produced for the new e-commerce platform, Design Dose, including a special edition holiday gift guide launching this November. Additionally, she will focus on building out business-focused content and industry news for the Surface site and Design Dispatch newsletter, set to begin rolling out before the end of this year.

Prior to joining Surface, Golenda most recently worked as the market editor and branded content strategist at The Architect’s Newspaper and AN Interior Magazine. She has also been a regular contributor at Dwell and Architizer, as well as the former creative director at The Berman Group. In her previous life, Golenda worked in fashion for nearly four years at Tom Ford and as a stylist for brands including Balenciaga, Purple Magazine, and Nordstrom, among others.

Surface Media CEO Marc Lotenberg says, “Gabby is an incredible addition to the Surface team, and her energy and passion for storytelling and design can already be found in the work she’s begun to produce, particularly for Design Dose. In the same vein, Gabby will be instrumental growing our Design Dispatch newsletter into a full fledged subscription-based product over the next few months. Design Dispatch is one of the most valued news sources in the industry, read by designers and creatives all over the world every morning; we’re excited to see how Gabby’s insight and direction will offer our readers an even greater experience as it evolves.”

Golenda says, “Surface immortalizes the kinds of stories where design, architecture, technology, and intersecting industries have come together to create something that not only adds beauty to our lives, but also some kind of intrinsic value. I’m thrilled to be joining Surface during a transitional time in media, treading the shifting landscape from print to digital. Looking to the future, there are endless opportunities to create dynamic, authentic content by utilizing the information economy, AI, and VR.”

On the heels of launching its first-ever consumer e-commerce platform–Design Dose–Surface continues to pave the way for digital and multimedia content in the high-end art, design, fashion, and architecture space. For more than 27 years, Surface has been creating a brand built for longevity that has allowed it to evolve from solely a magazine publisher to an influential, multi-platform media company driven by innovation to withstand today’s ever-changing media landscape and grow as an industry leader.
