Surwon Technology Completes Controlled Desalination Tests
Surwon Technology has completed a program of controlled tests which gauged the efficiency of a membrane coating designed for desalination use.
HONG KONG, July 8, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Hong Kong-based specialist and advanced materials innovator, Surwon Technology, says it has recently completed a battery of controlled tests designed to gauge the efficiency of a super-thin graphene membrane it developed for deployment in the desalination industry.
The company says the graphene-based coating "aced" controlled tests at 4 installations on the Chinese mainland including the Tianjin Seawater and Tsingtao Befesa desalination plants. It expects to make a formal announcement of its commercial plans for the membrane's intellectual property in the coming weeks.
"Preliminary results are highly encouraging," said Bo Kung, Chief Technology Officer at Surwon Technology. "We were concerned that flow rate might have been an issue but it appears there was no cause for concern. The results will be made available on the company's website in due course and we think that there will be considerable interest from desalination enterprises worldwide," he added.
Desalination is attracting significant investment particularly in mainland China which faces an impending water shortage in 8 of its northern provinces. Traditional filters used in desalination plants impede water flow and limit the amount of clean water that can be produced. The graphene-based membrane can remove the impurities but allows the flow rate to be near-doubled. They are also more durable.
"I expect that Surwon Technology will be inviting bids for the intellectual property pertaining to this innovation in due course," said Mr. Kung
