SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Dec. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- LECMPA announced today that Susan Tukel, president, will retire, effective Dec. 31. Rod Bloedow, currently LECMPA trustee, becomes president Jan. 1.
"This is a very bittersweet moment for me. I've worked with LECMPA in a variety of capacities since 1982, and I've seen many changes in the transportation industry," said Tukel. "It has been an honor to serve our members and our staff. I have every confidence in Rod's integrity and leadership going forward. LECMPA is in good hands."
Tukel has been the Association's president since 2005 and served as vice president and general counsel from 2003-04. After retiring, she will continue to serve as a trustee and provide legal counsel. Prior to her time with LECMPA, Tukel was a litigation partner with Williams Mullen Law Firm specializing in contracts, insurance, and complex litigation from 2001-03 and a partner/shareholder of various private law firms as general counsel to insurance companies for more than 20 years.
Under Tukel's leadership, LECMPA expanded its membership to include all railroad crafts and added union trucking and logistics employees. Tukel broadened traditional policy offerings, instituted new underwriting groups, developed loss performance analyses, and increased the Association's surplus/reserve significantly during her tenure, enhancing the Association's ability to serve its members.
Bloedow, a long-time policyholder and trustee, is a third-generation railroader who served locomotive engineers and trainmen in various local and regional elective offices at both SMART Transportation Division and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. He holds a bachelor's degree from Buena Vista University and a Labor & Industrial Relations master's degree from Michigan State University.
"I commend Susan's steady leadership and long tenure. As a trustee, I had the privilege of observing her commitment to the Association's 110-year-old mission of protecting members from financial harm," Bloedow said. "I look forward to leading the team to serve our members in new and innovative ways, keeping pace with the complex and ever-changing transportation industry."
