Susana Harp and Regina Orozco in Keynote Concerts at the Festival of Life and Death Traditions at Xcaret by Experiencias Xcaret
Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, México (PRWEB) September 23, 2013 -- Xcaret, Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo with grand presentations by Susana Harp, Regina Orozco and Los Folkloristas, the 8th Festival of Life and Death Traditions will take place at Xcaret by Experiencias Xcaret, an event that focuses on the central theme of the Day of the Dead, a beautiful age-old Mexican tradition declared a masterpiece of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Confirming that the Festival will take place from October 29th to November 2nd, Leticia Aguerrebere Salido, the Festival´s General Director, also informed that this year the special guest will be Campeche, thus a delegation from that state will come to Xcaret with representative samples of their dances, music, cuisine,altars, photographs and sculpture.
Prominent among the exhibits from Campeche is the one representing the Pomuch Cementery where, according to tradition, every Day of the Dead, people clean the bones of the dearly departed that are then deposited back into wooden ossuaries.
Among the artistic expressions of the festival, Susana Harp will offer a Grand concert called “Of Revelry and Wakes”. The singer who is originally from Oaxaca state pays tribute to Mexican music in her interpretations, including songs in their original language such as Zapotec. The beauty of her voice and her unique style have made her deserving of public recognition both at home and abroad since 1996.
Regina Orozco will also be present wither show “Regina Catrina”, a unique display of cabaret theater. Regina is a renowned Mexican actress who received an Ariel Mexican Academy of Film award for her participation in “Profundo Carmen”; due to her extraordinary voice she has won several “Bell Canto” contests and her recordings are proof of her unique musical approach which is resonant as expressive and playful.
Los Folkloristas, in turn, will participate in the Festival with their concert “Cantando con la Muerte” (“Singing with death”), showing the variety of traditional music. Created in 1996, this musical group has graced many stages both at home and abroad with their musical proposal, focused on rescuing and preserving traditional Mexican and Latin American music.
As it happens every year, the participation of the Mayan communities clearly stands out, with samples of their cuisine, altars, crafts, as well as community theater and music, celebrating the tradition known as Hanal Pixán.
An important innovation for this year is artistic expression through graffiti, with large canvases provided so Campeche State artists and the public in general will have the opportunity to express their creativity.
The central theme for this edition of the Festival is “Ix´tabay”, a mythical character from Mayan culture represented by a beautiful woman who, according to legend, appears before men who are walking alone at night in order to take them with her. Thus, among the presentations there will be a contemporary dance staging directed by Paloma Martínez called “Ghosts”; Yucatan regional theater will be present with “The Night of Salma Ix´tabay” directed by Raul Niño; and street theater will be represented in the show “Requiem for a Clown” by Comparsa La Bulla.
Apolonio Mondragón will present his stage show “The Legend of Ix´tabay and the Cadejo”; Black theater will make an appearance with Laboratorio de la Máscara theater group offering “Tina´s Journey” while Aquelarre Teatro will present “The Dziú Bird”, directed by Marcela Castillo.
In an interesting staging with a mixture of Jazz music and storytelling, Emilio Lomé will present “Ix´tabay, Stories-Jazz” together with the Ameneyro Jazz Group. Marta de Juana will participate with her staging of “Broadcast live from the Afterlife”, while Marcela Romero presents “Ix´tabay in the Agave Field”.
The Children and Young People Pavilion will pay homage to the Fort of Campeche and its unique history of pirates and buccaneers, Among the great variety of entertainment options for children and youngsters, Daniel Gallo comes to the Festival presenting “The Pirates Are Here”, interactive storytelling; Cántaro group offers “The Pirate´s Portrait”; and Leticia Rioja brings “The Mourning Women from Playa” a Collective Art Exhibit to the Tune of México.
In this Festival of artistic expressions, Silvia Lozano´s ballet –this time participating with “The innocence of Death”-, Xcaret´s children singers and Xcaret´s Marimbas, as well as the stage show by grupo Xipetotek, are absolute must-sees.
