Syon's clientele is comprised of some of the nation's wealthiest families, executives, and entrepreneurs.
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 13, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Veteran financial advisor Ash Chopra has left Merrill Lynch Private Wealth to launch Syon Capital, LLC, [Syon Capital] a Registered Investment Advisor with the Securities Exchange Commission.
Headquartered in San Francisco, Syon Capital opens its doors with a team of 10 professionals. Most of them were Chopra's team members at Merrill Lynch where, prior to their move, they managed approximately $4.5 billion in client assets.
The newly formed RIA has chosen Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. as primary custodian for all client accounts. Having Schwab Advisor Family Office's act as custodian for client assets provides access to a wide range of services.
Chopra, CEO of Syon Capital, explained that the move to independence will empower him and his team to serve their clients' best interests -- as fiduciaries -- by offering comprehensive independent advice on all aspects of their financial lives, not just assets. By leveraging a broader arsenal of tools the firm will help manage their clients' assets and liabilities, as well as offering access to private investment opportunities.
"Greater freedom, flexibility and the ability to more effectively serve our clients have been the core drivers of our decision to launch Syon. As a team, we have dedicated our wire-house careers to laying down the foundation of a family office group," said Chopra. "But within a wire-house our ability to brand ourselves as a multi-family office, and serve our clients as fiduciaries, was restricted. As an independent organization our family office model will enable us to serve our clients free from the constraints of a broker/dealer model."
Syon's clientele is comprised of some of the nation's wealthiest families, executives, and entrepreneurs. The team builds thoughtfully curated and holistic financial strategies to help optimize their clients' capital and enhance both their lives and their legacies.
Chopra pointed out that a key factor fueling the decision to become an independent RIA was the team's key differentiator: a commitment to be a client's personal CFO and focus on clients' net keep, not just their net worth.
"We strive to customize wealth plans to maximize returns, after taxes and fees, across all our clients' assets and finances. This is an engaging strategy that we can take to a level that we were unable to as captive employees of our former firm," Chopra added.
Chopra's career in the United States started in 1989 as a co-op student. Prior to earning his business degree and joining Goldman Sachs in 2000, he worked as an engineer for a decade. In 2004, he left Goldman to join Merrill Lynch.
