HOUSTON, June 12, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Texas Connections Academy, a tuition-free online public school serving students in grades 3-12 across the state, will be holding a virtual ceremony to celebrate its 597 graduates on Sunday, June 14, 2020. The school originally planned an in-person ceremony for the Class of 2020, but due to social distancing, the graduation was moved online.
"When I look at this year's graduating class, I see our future leaders," said Lea Ann Lockard, executive director of Texas Connections Academy. "Throughout the year, they've shown incredible strength and fortitude and have taken great pride in their academic accomplishments. We are thrilled to be able to celebrate them with their families."
Among the graduates is senior Audrey Scott, who received more than $1 million in scholarship offers. Scott will be attending University of Chicago to study Physics. In total, the students were awarded almost $3 million in scholarships. Also graduating are the school's valedictorian, Jade Dalrymple, who is heading to Franklin University in Switzerland and salutatorian, Soren Creecy, who will be attending the University of Texas at Austin.
More than half of the class have plans to attend college with 66 percent intending to attend two- or four-year colleges or universities. Additionally, graduates also have plans to attend vocational/technological training programs (8 percent), join the military (4 percent) or enter the workforce directly upon graduation (10 percent).
