Texas Truck Accident Attorney Gene S. Hagood Comments on News Report Linking Speeding Truckers to Tire Blowouts, Serious Wrecks
Houston, TX (PRWEB) April 29, 2015 -- Commenting on a recent Star-Telegram article about tractor-trailers on Texas highways being driven faster than their tires are designed to handle, Houston truck accident lawyer Gene S. Hagood said today the article reveals another reason why truck drivers should never exceed the speed limit.
Hagood, lead attorney at the Law Office of Gene S. Hagood, based his comments on a March 31 article titled “Many tractor-trailers on Texas roads exceed tires’ safety ratings.” The article contends that truck driver error – and not other factors such as defective tires – may be to blame for some of the state’s most severe truck wrecks.
“Trained truck drivers should understand how to safely operate their rigs on Texas highways,” Hagood said. “But in a rush to meet delivery times or cover more ground between stops, truckers may choose to exceed safe speed limits on our highways. The consequences of their careless decisions can be grave. The recent study published in the Star-Telegram about speeding and tire blowouts should serve as a wakeup call for all trucking companies to better train their employees and should serve as a sober reminder for truckers to follow all necessary safety laws to keep themselves and others safe.”
According to the Star-Telegram, a recent investigation conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that truck operators – and not tires – were the cause of several tire blowouts across the state. The article noted that of the 16 blowouts investigated, it was determined that drivers who exceeded the 75 mph rating for the tires were the “most likely cause” of accident.
“When a truck driver chooses to drive faster than a tire’s rated speed, the results can be nothing short of catastrophic,” Hagood said, who has represented victims of truck accidents and families who have lost loved ones because of trucking company negligence. “Texas truck accidents demand a thorough investigation. And that’s what truck accident attorneys can do on behalf of victims and their families. Truck accidents tend to result in serious injuries such as brain injuries or spinal cord damage. Often, victims don’t survive these horrific crashes. An attorney can help recover compensation for victims and hold the negligent parties accountable.”
