Winners recognized for exceptional skill and artistry
INDIANAPOLIS, June 12, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Yamaha has selected 12 notable musicians as its 2023 Yamaha Young Performing Artists (YYPA) competition winners. The YYPA competition recognizes outstanding young musicians studying in the United States who excel in classical, jazz and contemporary music genres who excel in classical, jazz and contemporary music.
"The Yamaha Young Performing Artists (YYPA) Program has stood the test of time and helped launch the careers of many young, aspiring artists. Talented applicants who demonstrated exceptional technical skill and artistry in brass, winds, strings, percussion, and piano submitted an audio/video audition and supporting materials to enter; each submission was evaluated by a panel of Yamaha Artists, experts and national celebrity musicians.

The YYPA program has been one of the essential ways Yamaha connects with young and rising talent. This competition has recognized more than 300 exemplary musicians. Many of the past winners have established successful music careers as performers and educators, including Walter Blanding, Jr., saxophonist, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra; Kenneth Tse, professor of saxophone at the University of Iowa; and Leelanee Sterrett, horn, New York Philharmonic.
The 2023 Yamaha Young Performing Artists receive an all-expense-paid trip to the YYPA Celebration being held from June 24-27, 2023. This takes place during the Music for All™ Summer Symposium, to be held at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, from June 26-July 1, 2023. The 2023 guest artist for the YYPA Celebration Weekend is Yamaha artist and musical prodigy Grace Kelly. A singer-saxophonist-songwriter-composer and band leader, she is currently the youngest member of the Board of Trustees of Berklee College of Music.
The winners will perform in front of a unique audience, receive national press coverage, and participate in workshops designed to launch a professional music career. The 2023 winners will walk away from this once-in-a-lifetime experience with services and support from Yamaha Artist Relations and professional audio and video recordings, as well as photography of their live performance.
