Keeping Great Teachers in Classrooms
SAN FRANCISCO, April 25, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Beans, a financial technology startup, and Teach for America (TFA) Houston, a pacesetter for educational equity in the city of Houston, announced their partnership to provide Houston area educators and staff with tools to reduce financial stress, improve wellbeing, and support mental health outcomes.
Financial stress is the number one most persistent stress in America* and with teacher turnover at 10% nationwide, higher than it was pre-pandemic, the need for tools to reduce stress and support wellbeing is at an all-time high**.
Through the launch of the partnership with The Beans, TFA Houston's incoming and existing Corp Members will receive access to a year of financial care from The Beans, including evidence-based content, tools, and resources aimed at reducing financial stress while making meaningful financial progress.
"We know that effectively managing income and cash flow disrupts stress cycles, restoring joy and the kind of presence effective classroom leaders need," said Melissa Pancoast, Founder, and CEO of The Beans. "As a Teach for America alum I am proud that this program was built by teachers for teachers. We believe it should be possible to do great work and make financial progress." Reducing financial stress leads to improved well-being and can play a key role in employee retention.
Houston TFA's work with The Beans will provide new Corp Members access to The Beans' app, evidence-based content, and ongoing support through Community Sessions. "TFA Houston is committed to supporting our Corp Members and providing them with the resources they need to succeed," said Tiffany Cuellar Needham, Executive Director of Teach for America Houston. "The Bean is a critical component of that support, and we are proud to offer this program to our Corp Members." The Bean is just one of the many ways that TFA Houston is working to support our Corps Members as they strive to make a difference in their communities. By offering financial education and resources, we aim to help our Corp Members achieve financial security and freedom, allowing them to focus on their mission of improving education for all students.
