Free community event and resources to raise awareness and maximize student loan forgiveness opportunity
SAN FRANCISCO , Oct. 6, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Beans, a financial technology startup serving America's Caring Class, is working to connect as many eligible public servants with the limited Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) waiver prior to the closing date of October 31.
The PSLF program has been an integral part of The Beans' financial wellness work with America's Caring Class. The Caring Class, those who choose careers of mission over money, often work in careers of public service and also tend to carry student loan debt because their career paths often require post-secondary degrees. In addition to the resources available on their app, The Beans is hosting a free community event Wednesday, October 19 to facilitate completion of the PSLF waiver. The goal of the event is simple, complete and submit your waiver before the deadline.
"Many of the people coming to The Beans through our app or our partnerships are carrying large student loan debts. They are working as public educators, nonprofit employees, or other public service careers that do not pay as much as the private sector," said Melissa Pancoast, Founder and CEO of The Beans. "We are rooted in the principle that you should be able to work in a career that you love and maintain a money + life balance. The PSLF program has been a big part of this. We have helped our community realize more than $400,000 dollars in student debt forgiveness and with this limited waiver the potential is huge."
The limited PSLF waiver, which opened October of last year, greatly expands the opportunity to take advantage of loan forgiveness by including previously excluded payment types and repayment plans. The waiver also includes provisions for individuals to receive credit towards future forgiveness.
"I work for a public hospital and have been steadily chipping away at my student loans for years. I started using The Beans app prior to the limited waiver and at that time my payment types didn't qualify for forgiveness, but when the limited waiver opened up I filled out the paperwork, consolidated my loans, and kept checking my account. Several months later my balance was zero and then I started receiving money- they paid me back for my overpayments," said Sara Brown, healthcare professional, and member of The Beans.
The Beans' community event is a dedicated time for members of the Caring Class to come together and take action. There will be experts on hand to answer questions along with peer support. Registration is required, but no other preparation is necessary.
"The Public Service Loan Forgiveness limited waiver truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity, but the deadline is fast approaching. We encourage anyone working in public service who has student loan debt to join us, and get your waiver completed," said Pancoast.
