Leading New Jersey law firm works with AI technology provider accessiBe to give all clients complete access to online services and support
BURLINGTON, N.J., March 7, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- TheCostello Law Firm (Costello), a civil law firm specializing in personal injury law, worker's compensation and healthcare provider law, today announced a strategic partnership with AI technology provider accessiBe to bring its website in full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and WCAG 2.1.
Today, people with disabilities currently make up roughly 20% of the total US population, leaving one in five individuals without proper access to the internet. Since all accessibility (digital and physical) is a civil right, companies and law firms like Costello need to ensure that their websites are accessible for all users
"We're delighted to work with accessiBe to make our website fully accessible and user-friendly for all of our clients including those with disabilities covered under the ADA," said Christopher Costello, managing partner of the Costello Law Firm. "We hope to lead by example so other law firms across the state of New Jersey and the country at large will join us in ensuring a level digital playing field for everyone seeking legal services on the Internet."
Thanks to accessiBe's AI technology, Costello Law Firm's website is now fully equipped to provide the following website profile enhancements for people with disabilities:
- Seizure Safe - clears flashes and reduces color
- Vision Impaired - enhances website's visuals
- ADHD Friendly - more focus and fewer distractions
- Cognitive Disability - assists with reading and focusing
- Keyboard Navigations (Motor) - use website with keyboard
- Blind Users - optimize website for screen readers
"We are committed to partnering with professionals, from web agencies to freelance developers and marketers, to equip them with the tools they need to open their websites to the disability community," said Shir Ekerling, co-founder and CEO of accessiBe. "We are thrilled to partner with Costello to help ensure that their clients can achieve and maintain web accessibility. This includes 24-hour automatic maintenance scans of any new and updated content, along with monthly compliance audits."
The ADA is the United States' most important law regarding accessibility and civil rights for people with disabilities. Originally signed into law in 1990, the ADA prohibits discrimination against anyone based on ability or disability. In 2017, a clear consensus emerged that the ADA also covers the online world. Disability rights activists, legal scholars, and court rulings have agreed that websites, internet portals, and online stores need to be accessible for people with disabilities.
Today, U.S. courts apply ADA accessibility requirements to the internet, meaning websites should comply with ADA rules. Reinforcement was displayed by the Department of Justice in 2022 when it released a new guidance on implementing web accessibility standards and practices, clarifying that the ADA indeed covers web accessibility.
ADA title III-related lawsuits have skyrocketed. There were at least 11,452 federal filings in 2021, which is a 320 percent increase over a short, eight-year period. And, as of 2020, approximately 265,000 filings were sent to businesses that operated inaccessible websites.
