New survey follows 2026 research showing strong device use, tighter cash flow, and uncertainty around major investments
NOBLESVILLE, Ind., Oct. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ --
What makes a used aesthetic system worth bringing into a med spa?
The Laser Agent is inviting med spa owners, operators, and equipment decision-makers to answer that question through a new survey focused on how practices evaluate used lasers and other professional aesthetic equipment.
The survey comes at a time when device-based treatments are already part of many aesthetic practices, but the financial pressure behind major purchases remains high.
Moxie's 2026 State of the Specialty Report, based on a national survey of 628 U.S. aesthetic practice owners, found that 71% offer device-based treatments such as lasers and body-contouring services. The same report found that 68% had experienced tighter cash flow than expected despite maintaining a full schedule, while seven in ten had made a major investment without feeling confident it was the right decision. Those findings show why an equipment decision cannot be based on the model name or purchase price alone. The system must also fit the practice's treatment menu, team, patient demand, budget, and plans for growth.
Equipment Demand Is Growing, but So Is the Pressure to Choose Well
A recent industry analysis shows that aesthetic practices are still growing, but much of that growth is coming from existing patients rather than a large increase in new ones.
According to AmSpa's August 2026 analysis of more than 100 med spa and aesthetic brands, the median practice increased revenue by 19.2% year over year, while median new-patient growth was only 1.2%. The report found that existing patients were returning more often, spending more per visit, and joining membership programs. American Med Spa Association
For equipment buyers, that creates an important question: Will the next system give current patients another treatment to book, or will it add technology that has no clear demand behind it?
A separate AmSpa summary of the ASPS 2025 Statistics Report found that laser skin treatments remained among the most-performed minimally invasive procedures. IPL, hair removal, and tattoo removal were also identified among commonly performed treatment categories. American Med Spa Association
The demand is there. The harder part is deciding which equipment can help a practice serve it without taking on more cost, risk, or treatment capacity than the business can support.
Why The Laser Agent Is Asking Med Spa Owners Directly
Current industry reports show that aesthetic practices use device-based treatments, face cash-flow pressure, and continue investing in technology. They do not answer a more specific question:
What makes a med spa owner comfortable buying a used system?
A lower price may attract attention, but it does not reveal:
- Whether the system has been properly inspected
- Which handpieces and applicators are included
- Whether the configuration supports the planned treatments
- How heavily the equipment has been used
- Whether parts and consumables remain available
- What warranty protection may apply
- Whether service will still be available after delivery
- How much the equipment will cost to make treatment-ready
Two systems with the same model name and year can therefore offer very different value.
One may arrive with the handpieces, filters, accessories, and treatment capabilities the practice needs. Another may require additional purchases, service, training, or repairs before the first appointment can be booked.
The new survey will ask med spa owners which differences matter most before they commit their equipment budget.
What the Survey Will Measure
Participants will be asked to select the two factors that carry the most weight when their practice considers used aesthetic equipment.
The options include:
- Purchase price
- Verified condition and performance
- Included handpieces and accessories
- Warranty coverage
- Service support after delivery
- Parts and consumable availability
- Financing options
- Clinical training
- Equipment age and usage
- Service history
- Photos or video demonstrations of the actual system
- Seller experience
- Whether the seller owns and handles the equipment directly
Owners will also be able to share concerns that do not appear on the list.
The responses will help show whether practices are primarily driven by cost or whether system condition, configuration, warranty, service, training, and seller accountability carry equal or greater weight.
Used Equipment Is Not One Standard Category
"Used" only describes previous ownership. It does not show what happened to the equipment before it was listed for sale.
A system may be:
- Sold directly by its current owner
- Listed by a broker who does not possess the equipment
- Cleaned and resold without detailed testing
- Serviced and repaired before resale
- Inspected through a formal Certified process
- Offered with or without warranty and post-purchase support
These differences can change the total cost of the purchase.
A cheaper private listing may require the buyer to arrange an inspection, locate missing handpieces, handle shipping, find a qualified technician, and cover any repair needed after delivery. A higher-priced Certified system may already include some of those protections.
That is why the survey will not ask owners only whether they would buy used. It will ask what needs to stand behind the equipment before they move forward.

The Question for Med Spa Owners

When your practice considers buying used aesthetic equipment, which two factors matter most before you move forward?
Choose from price, verified condition, included handpieces, warranty, service support, parts availability, financing, training, age and usage, service history, equipment demonstrations, seller experience, or direct ownership of the system.
