The Meeting Live Read, hosted by Affion Crockett and Kelly Jenrette (Produced by Bechir Sylvain)
In today's fight for justice, what would Malcolm X and MLK Jr. say? On the anniversary of Juneteenth, we cordially invite you to our one night only virtual production of "The Meeting", a play by Jeff Stetson, to continue the critical conversation on race, equality and freedom. Tickets are free at http://themeetingliveproduction.com.
LOS ANGELES, June 15, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Directed by the legendary Bill Cobbs, this powerhouse play imagines a conversation between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (played by Ethan Henry of Criminal Minds, Bloodline) and Malcolm X (played by Bechir Sylvain of Claws, Blackish), two husbands and fathers who are also the most visionary and historic leaders in modern political life. The play also stars Justin Chu Cary (of Quarantine, Black Summer) as Malcolm X's bodyguard.
As a backdrop to Stetson's brilliant dialogue, the play brings to light the voices of passion and frustration from the differing views regarding American racial injustice. In today's America, where racial justice is still non-existent and the crusade for equality marches on, our want to revisit these two iconic and extremely missed leaders is still ever present. Can we look to the past to find solutions for our present? Can the hard questions eventually bring understanding, healing, and peace?
In the Q&A and panel discussion following the performance (hosted by Affion Crockett (of Wild'N Out, The Wedding Ringer) and Kelly Jenrette (The Handmaid's Tale, Grandfathered), the conversation will include stories from Thomas Cannon a police officer from Houston TX, Amanda McMonigle Director of Operations for BE THE BRIDGE in Louisville Kentucky, Actor Austin Hebert (Detroit and Burden), Brigg Stern a Christian leader in Los Angeles,CA and Victor Cary, Senior Director at the National Equity Project, to discuss what everyone can do to aid the revolution.
This virtual show is free and, in lieu of ticket cost, attendees are encouraged to donate to the social justice mission they connect with the most.
