Executive and Medical Director Dr. Remington Nevin Will Lead an Education Session October 3, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Royal Canadian Legion's Montgomery Branch 351
PORT HURON, Mich., Oct. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Quinism Foundation has announced that its executive and medical director, Remington Nevin, MD, MPH, DrPH, will attend and speak at the 10th Annual Mefloquine Conference in Ottawa, Ontario, October 3–4, 2026. The weekend program will combine Saturday's education session with speeches, presentations, and advocacy on Parliament Hill the following day.
Dr. Nevin's education session will take place Saturday, October 3, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time at the Royal Canadian Legion's Montgomery Branch 351, 330 Kent Street, Ottawa. A meet-and-greet in the Legion common area will precede the session, from noon to 1:00 p.m.
"I look forward to joining Canadian veterans and others affected by mefloquine in Ottawa," said Dr. Nevin. "This gathering is an opportunity to share information, answer questions, and support those seeking greater understanding and recognition of the lasting effects of mefloquine poisoning."
The education session will include a question-and-answer period, opportunities to share resources, and support for those affected by mefloquine poisoning. Additional time for attendees to gather, learn, and support one another will follow the session beginning at 4:00 p.m.
The Foundation promotes education and research on quinism, also known as chronic quinoline encephalopathy, the disease of the brain and brainstem caused by poisoning from mefloquine and related quinoline drugs. The Foundation has emphasized that symptoms of quinism can mimic and be mistaken for those of post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury, particularly among veterans.
"Veterans and their families deserve clear information about mefloquine and the conditions that can follow exposure," said Dr. Nevin. "Education is essential to helping those affected understand their experiences and to helping clinicians recognize when persistent symptoms may be related to the drug."
Following Saturday's education session, the weekend's focus will turn to public awareness and advocacy on Sunday, October 4. Participants will gather at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from 12:30 to 12:45 p.m., then walk to Parliament Hill for speeches, presentations, and advocacy from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. All times are local to Ottawa.
