The Reeves Law Group Awards $5,000 Scholarship to Harvard Law School Student Stacy N. Livingston
Graduating Summa cum Laude from Dartmouth College, the 1st year law student at Harvard Law School has won a scholarship by setting herself the ambitious goal of ensuring that a layperson needn't be bewildered by a legal system designed by lawyers - for lawyers.
LOS ANGELES, March 9, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Reeves Law Group has just awarded a $5,000 scholarship to Stacy N. Livingston, to help pay her way at Harvard Law School. This year marks the 7th anniversary of the firm's Annual Future Lawyer Scholarship and is premised upon assisting law students who are singularly focused on innovative ways to provide unprecedented service to the community, particularly to the less fortunate.
"The judging for scholarship applications is both challenging and inspiring," said Robert Reeves, the Los Angeles firm's founder. "We're seeing more applications every year and it's encouraging to see how many young people are prepared to go the extra mile to be of service to the community. It's humbling and inspiring!"
Reeves has awarded these scholarships annually since their first in 2014. That first year's scholarship was $1,000 but has been increased over the years to $5,000. The scholarship funds are paid directly to the college or university, earmarked strictly for tuition and education-related expenses.
When asked what the selection process is based upon, Mr. Reeves said it is primarily focused on finding law students who have a plan to provide extraordinary services to the less fortunate members of the community. To that end, applicants write an essay, describing how and why they feel they can accomplish that. The judges consider past, present and foreseen activities and choose the candidate they see as the most likely to fix problems or improve conditions in society.
"This year's winner, Stacy Livingston," said Reeves, "actually began her studies with an eye toward marketing, pursuing double majors in psychology and English at Dartmouth Summa cum Laude, by the way!"
"But through a personal experience, she realized that navigating the legal system was challenging for someone without the necessary training or the ability to pay a lawyer to assist them. So, she decided that was something she could help change – to make the legal system more accessible to everyone. A Harvard law degree is her next step to accomplish that."
Stacy has shown she's willing to put forth the effort through her volunteer work and she's already signed up to work with two Harvard professors to expand those efforts. Reeves says he's proud of what she's done and will do and he's certain she'll be making a name for herself. "I'm pleased that we can help her achieve her goals," said Reeves.
