SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Feb. 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Retreat at Pacifica Graduate Institute is pleased to announce Art and Psyche: Conference IV, The Illuminated Imagination, featuring the work of C.G. Jung. The main conference is scheduled on April 4 -7, and will be located at the University of California, Santa Barbara's University Center (UCEN) and at the Art, Design & Architecture Museum. The conference is co-sponsored by The Art and Psyche Working Group; Pacifica Graduate Institute; Art, Design & Architecture Museum, University of California, Santa Barbara; The Foundation of the Works of C.G. Jung (Zurich); The Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism (ARAS); and The International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP).
"We are delighted to co-host the upcoming Art and Psyche Conference IV, and anticipate a tremendous response for this significant occasion," said David Odorisio, Ph.D., Director of the Retreat at Pacifica Graduate Institute and faculty member. Joe Cambray, Ph.D., President and CEO of Pacifica Graduate Institute stated, "Pacifica Graduate Institute is honored to be involved with this monumental event, and looks forward to engaging with leaders and communities at the intersections of psychotherapy, depth psychology, and the creative potential of the psyche."
The Art and Psyche Conference will engage the imaginative processes of psychotherapists and members of the art community to expand attendees' understanding of depth psychology. Professionals from various fields will attend and experience psychology through painting, music, poetry, and literature as well as psychological theories and clinical practices.
The work of C.G. Jung, particularly through his vividly illustrated The Red Book, will offer a historical backdrop that continues to inspire artists and psychotherapists individually and collectively. Featured presenters include Sonu Shamdasani, Ph.D., Ulrich Hoerni, Bettina Kaufmann, Ph.D., Thomas Fischer, Ph.D., Jill Mellick, Ph.D., Craig E. Stephenson, Ph.D., Elliot Wolfson, Ph.D., Mary Dougherty, MFA, ATR, MCPsyA and Ann Taves, Ph.D.
Conference presentations revolve around the theme of "The Illuminated Imagination" which refers to The Red Book that many liken to a medieval manuscript. Through The Red Book, it is possible to see the unfolding of one person's psychological journey with relevance for the process of individuation today and into our shared future. The conference itself will function as an emergent community through the interaction of the participants in large group plenaries, performances, small group breakouts, and workshops. Based on experiences at the three previous conferences, these interactions have a synergistic and enlivening effect on all who attend.
