GREELEY, Colo., Oct. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Rocky Mountain ADA Center (RMADAC), a member of the ADA National Network and a project of the University of Northern Colorado (UNC), is pleased to announce it has been awarded a new three-year grant from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) to continue providing education, training, technical assistance and research on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The new award will support the center's work serving individuals, businesses, public entities and organizations throughout Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. Through its regional programs, RMADAC helps people understand their rights and responsibilities under the ADA while providing resources and guidance to support accessibility and compliance.
"We are honored and energized by our renewed funding to serve the Rocky Mountain region. We look forward to continuing our important work with individuals and organizations, leading to improved understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act throughout the region," said Emily Shuman, director of the Rocky Mountain ADA Center. "This funding allows us to build on our longstanding commitment to ADA education and research, and to provide free and confidential technical assistance to the communities we serve."
The grant maintains the Rocky Mountain ADA Center at its institutional home, the University of Northern Colorado, under the leadership of Dr. Jill Bezyak. In March 2023, the center's federal grant transferred to UNC, creating new opportunities for staff development, research collaboration, technical assistance and public outreach. "The work of the Rocky Mountain ADA Center is a tremendous asset to UNC's long-time commitment to excellence in disability research and education," said Jill Bezyak, principal investigator of the Rocky Mountain ADA Center.
UNC's leadership and research expertise have strengthened the center's ability to develop resources and investigate ADA compliance. The university's partnership also provides additional opportunities to connect research findings with practical information and training for businesses, government agencies and the public.
The new three-year award will support the center's ongoing initiatives, which include customized online training, free educational courses, podcasts, public outreach, free/confidential technical assistance and research into barriers to ADA compliance. Shuman adds, "We've planned exciting, innovative new initiatives and research that modernize ADA education and support employment of people with disabilities. We'll also deepen connections with aging populations who may be acquiring age-related disabilities, as well as caregivers."
As part of the ADA National Network, the Rocky Mountain ADA Center is one of ten regional centers working to improve understanding of the ADA and support its full implementation nationwide.
