CALLICOON, N.Y., Feb. 11, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Today, the Rural America Chamber of Commerce (or Rural Chamber), the country's first membership-based organization for rural entrepreneurs and business leaders, launched nationwide. Led by Founder & Executive Director Sherri Powell, the Rural Chamber will promote the economic interests of non-urban communities, while celebrating rural America's rich diversity.
"When our economy is challenged, rural areas are just as hard-hit as cities—and often more so because rural America in many ways lacks the survival and recovery resources available to metropolitan areas. This past year has been no exception," said Powell.
"Our new, rural-focused Chamber of Commerce is exactly what our country needs now and into the future. Ongoing rural business success contributes to the prosperity of our entire nation," Powell continued.
Membership in the Rural America Chamber of Commerce is open to sole proprietorships, small- to mid-sized businesses and trade associations, as well as nonprofit organizations. Member benefits include business visibility and promotion, access to actionable information and resources, networking opportunities, and more.
The Rural Chamber's advocacy arm, for example, will educate policymakers on the needs of rural America, pursue laws and policies that spur sustainable opportunities, and provide impact analyses of proposed actions or inaction on rural businesses, economies, and livelihoods.
The Rural Chamber will also serve as a platform for celebrating the inclusivity and diversity of rural America. "Many people who don't live in this part of the country or ever visit here will be quite surprised to discover that long-standing stereotypes about us are completely false," said Powell. "Our membership will authentically reflect the diverse heritage of rural America and, in so doing, play a vital role in strengthening race relations and mending the dangerous divisions that threaten to unravel our democracy."
