The SIP Forum Announces Dates for SIPNOC 2019 - The Ninth Annual SIP Network Operators Conference
The three-day educational conference to be held in Herndon, Va., December 3-5, 2019; Will continue, and expand, focus on the SHAKEN Call Authentication Framework and expanding efforts to combat the Robocall epidemic
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass., April 4, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The SIP Forum announced today that it will host the ninth annual SIP Network Operators Conference (SIPNOC 2019), a three-day educational conference focusing on the challenges and opportunities related to the deployment of SIP-based communications services.
SIPNOC 2019 will be held in Herndon, Va. on December 3-5, 2019 at the Hilton Washington Dulles Hotel, and will build on the success of the previous SIPNOC event, which earned high praise from attendees for its educational, non-commercial and technical content that focused on the real-world challenges operators face when deploying SIP services in global IP communications networks.
SIPNOC 2019 will also continue and expand its focus on the SHAKEN Call Authentication Framework. Developed jointly by the SIP Forum and ATIS (the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions) to efficiently implement the Internet Engineering Task Force's (IETF) STIR (for Secure Telephony Identity Revisited) standard, SHAKEN (for Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using toKENs) defines a mechanism to verify the calling number and specifies how it will be transported across communications networks.
Together, STIR/SHAKEN offers a practical mechanism to provide verified information about the calling party as well as the origin of the call — what is known as "attestation" — for the first time in the network. Giving service providers the tools needed to sign and verify calling numbers makes it possible for businesses and consumers to know, before answering, that the calls they receive are from legitimate parties. The STIR/SHAKEN Framework has been mandated by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC Decision 2018-32), and the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has also endorsed its deployment.
SIPNOC 2019 will examine STIR/SHAKEN in detail, as well as cover lessons learned from recent SHAKEN trials and deployments, including the ground-breaking initial deployment by AT&T and Comcast that involves the exchange of authenticated calls between the two providers' voice networks, Verizon's deployment, and T-Mobile's "Caller Verified" implementation of STIR/SHAKEN.
SIPNOC attendees include telecommunications providers, major backbone operators, interconnect and wholesale solution providers, ISPs, cable operators, wireless network operators and large enterprises deploying major SIP initiatives, as well as industry stakeholders in the Robocall and Caller ID Spoofing elimination/mitigation ecosystem, including governmental regulators and agencies, equipment manufacturers, enterprises, government agencies, contact centers, application providers and data analytics firms.

The SIP Forum will also host a number of networking events at the conference and offer a series of informal "Birds of a Feather" sessions, which encourage discussion of varying topics held in available meeting rooms and break-out areas.
