TEMPE, Ariz., Aug. 3, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Sun Angel Collective, a community of Arizona State University Sun Devil Athletics supporters has formally launched. The mission of the collective is to help Sun Devil student-athletes support Arizona non-profit organizations they are passionate about, while simultaneously monetizing their name, image, and likeness (NIL). The Sun Angel Collective's name honors the original name of the Sun Devil Club, which was known as the Sun Angel Foundation for 60 years from 1947-2007. The logo, which combines the pitchfork and a halo, pays homage to Sun Devil supporters of the past and present.
"We couldn't be more excited about the opportunity to support our student-athletes while at the same time helping out local area non-profits," said Jeff Burg, President of the Sun Angel Collective. "The Collective offers fans, donors and brands the opportunity to engage with our student-athletes in new ways, whether they want to contribute $10 or $10,000,000." The Collective has secured over $1,000,000 in pre-launch financial commitments from individual boosters and organizations. The Collective will be filing an application with the Internal Revenue Service to operate as a 501(c)(3) public charity, thereby making contributions to the Collective tax deductible, if approved. The Collective will also facilitate NIL opportunities with businesses looking to support Sun Devil student-athletes.
Sun Devil fans can get involved in supporting ASU student-athletes by joining the Sun Angel Collective through the monthly subscription program. Membership in The Sun Angel Collective includes access to exclusive benefits, including member events, opportunities to participate in meet and greets with student athletes and Official Sun Angel Collective merchandise. Brands looking to partner with student-athletes and donors who wish to make larger one-time donations or multi-year gifts should reach out to the Collective directly. "Having a well-funded Collective will provide ASU the resources needed to stay competitive in the everchanging NCAA sports landscape," said John Dorsey, a Collective Board Member.
The Sun Angel Collective has entered into an agreement with Oncoor Marketing to manage the day-to-day operation of the Collective and will utilize the Opendorse platform to ensure that all NIL activities are in full compliance with NCAA, University and State of Arizona guidelines. Oncoor and the Collective are currently conducting a search for a full-time Executive Director. The Executive Director will be responsible for business and donor development and management of the Collective membership program.
The Collective is overseen by a Board of Directors and an Advisory Board. The five founding board members are Jeff Burg, John Dorsey, Scott Harkey, Chris Michaels, and Mike Olsen, all of whom are current or former Sun Devil Club Board Members. The Collective has attracted several well-known former athletes to its Advisory Board, including Jake Plummer, Brock Osweiler, Omar Bolden, and Jordan Simone. The Collective plans to add individuals to both Boards in the coming months.
The Collective would like to encourage all Sun Devil supporters to learn more about the Collective and join today by visiting sunangels.org or by calling 877-SUN-ANGEL.
