PITTSBURGH, May 14, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- It's a staggering statistic: in 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. As we work feverishly to keep our oceans clean, one question remains: what can be done with the plastic that is collected from our beaches? Sperry, the iconic American footwear brand has found an answer- and is introducing a new collection of shoes for men, women, and kids for Spring 2019, made with BIONIC® material, which is spun from recycled ocean plastics.
This season, TWT Field Reporter Jackie Long visits Sperry headquarters to learn more. Viewers will see the process of taking plastic recovered from polluted waterways to the Nicoya Waterkeepers-BIONIC® Recycling Center in Costa Rica where it is spun into shoe fabric, and eventually made into Sperry's sustainable footwear collection.
"Sperry is excited to be featured on Tomorrow's World Today. The episode showcases how Sperry's new sustainable footwear, which is made with BIONIC® material, spun from plastic recovered from marine and coastal environments is produced, and allows us to raise awareness about the issue of water pollution, and the efforts of BIONIC® and Waterkeeper Alliance to combat it," says Kate Minner, CMO, Sperry.
Tomorrow's World Today, which was nominated for a 2019 Daytime Emmy, returns to Science Channel for season two beginning Saturday, May 4. Viewers can tune in on Saturday and Sunday mornings for five weeks to watch back-to-back new episodes.
