Veneto's Iconic Valpolicella Red Wines Will be Showcased in an Exclusive Trade and Media Event Walk-Around Tasting and Seminars Event on November 16, 2022 in New York City
NEW YORK, Sep. 21, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, the association representing around 322 wineries in Veneto, Italy, is pleased to announce the launch of an integrated communications campaign in the United States. The campaign will kick-off with a walk-around tasting event in New York City with educational seminars for trade and media professionals. Developed and managed by Colangelo & Partners, the consortium's agency of record, the campaign will focus on building awareness and excitement in the U.S. market for the denominations of Valpolicella, with particular focus on Valpolicella DOC and Valpolicella Superiore DOC.
Media relations activities began in September 2022 and will culminate on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 with the Valpolicella Walk-Around Tasting & Seminars Event, in New York City. The Consortium for the Protection of Valpolicella Wines aims to strategize and strengthen the promotion and awareness of the Valpolicella DOC appellation. In recent years, this appellation has been slightly overshadowed by the strong identity of the Valpolicella Ripasso and Amarone categories, which are renowned and recognized more widely in the United States.

In November, renowned New York City wine professionals, critics, sommeliers and top journalists will be invited to partake in an immersive Valpolicella experience, including a walk-around tasting from 12:00pm to 4:00pm EST and three dedicated educational seminars, hosted by the Italian Wine Expert Lars Leicht, Sherpa-in-Chief of the agency Vino Viaggio and VP of Education of The SOMM Journal and Tasting Panel Magazine. Each seminar will highlight the key elements of Valpolicella winemaking, including a detailed introduction to the region's territories and terroirs.

VALPOLICELLA IN NUMBERS
Valpolicella is the top red DOP wine in the Veneto region and amongst the most important in Italy.
Over the past 20 years, the vineyard area in Valpolicella has doubled in size and production potential. In 2021, vines were planted across 8,573 hectares and almost 73.6 million bottles of the DOC and DOCG wines (Valpolicella, Valpolicella Ripasso, Amarone e Recioto della Valpolicella) were produced for a value of approximately 600m euro (Italy's highest for any DOP).
TERRITORY
Valpolicella's landscape is extremely rich thanks to a morphologically varied territory, which spreads out into several valleys that separate from Verona. According to production rules, the broad Valpolicella DOC and DOCG wine production area is divided into three separate zones: the classic area, formed by five geographical areas encompassing the areas of Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella and San Pietro in Cariano, and valleys of Fumane, Marano and Negrar, the Valpantena area and the Valpolicella DOC area, with the districts of the municipality of Verona and the valleys of Illasi, Tramigna and Mezzane.
Grape varieties like Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and – in a lesser quantity – Molinara are found in the entire area.
