NEWPORT, R.I., Oct. 26, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection today announces the completion of a property-wide reimagination, ushering in a sweeping transformation of luxurious new guestrooms and locally-inspired experiences to Newport, R.I.The stylish mansion debuts 21 redesigned guestrooms and suites, the final chapter in the resort's top-to-bottom renovation. The new look premieres shortly after the property debuted modernized public spaces, a reconceptualized signature restaurant, updated menus and eye-catching designs at the resort's three additional dining destinations. Additionally, The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection is launching one-of-a-kind programming just in time for the fall season and beyond, inviting guests to make extraordinary memories and enjoy captivating experiences that are truly unique to Newport.
"The design and experience evolution at The Vanderbilt has been outstanding. From the reimagined social spaces with the most exceptional culinary offerings to the stunningly improved guest rooms and charming experiences, we can unequivocally say that the mansion is luxurious social hub of Newport," said Jordi Vallès Blistin, general manager, The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection. "It is a tremendous pleasure for all of us at The Vanderbilt to welcome guests and Newport locals to our unexpected escape."
Dallas-based design collective SWOON, The Studio designed the elegant guest rooms to reflect a natural extension of the recently refreshed state-of-the-art public spaces with an organic palette and textural elements. Embracing the mansion's Georgian architecture and the simplicity and honesty of American colonial design, the refreshed guestrooms are layered with inspiration from the mansion's namesake owner, Alfred Vanderbilt, and American socialite, Doris Duke. The two historical figures are woven into the narrative for the property, with elements of the design subtly celebrating their iconic playful reputation. The well-appointed rooms and suites evoke drama, with color, pattern, and texture grounding the design and creating a sense of warmth and thoughtful luxury, representative of the Auberge Resorts Collection brand. Guests will discover bespoke touch points such as a curated mini-bar, inside a custom armoire, a unique collection of vintage pieces such as custom beds and desks, vintage area rugs and art, and a thoughtful selection of books in each room.
The updated accommodations, newly classified as the Guild Room, Manor Suite, Mansion Loft Suite, Parlour Suite, Alfred Suite and Elise One Bed/Two Bed Suite, feature custom hand-drawn wallpaper and commissioned artworks, introducing refreshed and vintage furnishings, and mixing woods, unexpected fabrics and a vivid, saturated color palette. A large scale navy blue and white checkered pattern charms the guestrooms; captured on the wallpaper, window treatment, sofa upholstery, lamp shades and canopy bed headboard, while Kufri pillows and Scalamandre fabrics are layered throughout the spaces. Each room boasts a commissioned photograph by artist Maxine Helfman inspired by old-world still life portraits and found as the main featured photographer throughout the mansion. The en-suites evoke a gracious and chic space, featuring black and white checkered floor tile, deep blue and black tiled walls and Newport living brass fixtures with patina.
"The overall design aesthetic conveys a cinematic feel, with walls saturated in a lavish palette of muted greens, blues, and ochre and guestrooms filled with an artful mix of found objects, inspired vintage pieces, sculptural custom furnishings, hand-drawn wallcoverings, and classic patterns rendered in unexpected ways," said Samantha Sano, founder, SWOON. "The resulting sentiment is one of warmth, cleverness, and approachable elegance, with The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection staking its claim as Newport's buzzing property- convivial, and full of life."
The property offers a modern, fresh take on the storied elements that positions the resort to define the "new" downtown Newport. The ground floor spaces were conceptualized to serve as Newport's living room, with a chic restaurant, a cozy library lounge, an elegantly quirky parlor, and a dreamy, verdant conservatory, offering various spaces for gathering and entertaining.
To complement the fresh guestroom interiors, the property is introducing new experiences focused on the destination's rich coastal history and unrivaled cocktail program. From a private dining experience curated by a James Beard award-winning brand, to discovering the resort's hidden absinthe bar, the mansion is providing new ways to reconnect and indulge in life's simple pleasures.
Newport's historic downtown mansion has partnered with New York City's acclaimed Maison Premiere to create a first-of-its-kind, collaborative private dining experience, Upstairs/Downstairs: A Gilded Age Dinner Party. Kicking off this December 2022, and available for both guests and locals alike, the immersive offering will include a bespoke dinner and cocktail experience curated by the James Beard award-winning brand, featuring a nine-course menu. Inspired by the raucous parties of the early 20th century, when Newport's most legendary families threw extravagant soirées, the exclusive collaboration will highlight the intersection of taste, sound and aesthetic of both celebrated outlets, while paying homage to the resort's rich history and namesake, Alfred Vanderbilt.
With an inspired, immersive mixology program at the forefront of the property's reimagination, guests are invited to uncover the hotel's new marquee experience, The Green Hour, in which they are transported to another era back in the day where artists and poets imbibed on absinthe. Found within the Parlour at the hidden bar, guests are presented with an exclusive invitation and skeleton key to access the wondrous hidden closet. Inside, guests will discover a specialty absinthe menu while the mansion butler educates them about the history behind the storied spirit and details the mansion's favorite absinthe bottles for a pour in the custom made fountain. Guests can experience the spirit in a different application - in one of the specialty cocktails - while paired with a curated menu of light bites.
Additional unique guest experiences include joining the mansion's expert bar team in The Dining Room and constructing cocktails that celebrate the history and allure of the downtown mansion. Learn to make a Colonial-era cocktail inspired by the favorite libation of Alfred Vanderbilt, the hotel's namesake.
