The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities Welcomes Two New Impact Directors for Health and Well-being and Educational Success
Michelle Hinton joins the Alliance as director of population health and well-being. Kelly Martin has been named director of educational success.
WASHINGTON, May 15, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities announced today two new impact directors who are joining its team as issue experts on health and well-being and education. Michelle Hinton joins the Alliance as director of population health and well-being. Kelly Martin has been named director of educational success.

Michelle Hinton brings more than 20 years of executive leadership, change management, fund development, and public health experience to this new role. Formerly the executive director and CEO of the United Neighborhood Centers of Milwaukee (UNCOM) Hinton has extensive experience collaborating with corporate, nonprofit, health care, and foundation entities. Prior to UNCOM, Hinton served as the director of regional corporate relations for the American Cancer Society. Additionally, she served as the senior director of community engagement for the Wisconsin Region, where she was responsible for overall strategic direction, income, and mission goals for the organization. Hinton has held other leadership positions at Aurora Health Care Foundation and the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee. Hinton holds a bachelor's in business management and communications and a master's in business administration.
Prior to stepping into this position, Kelly Martin was a research analyst at the Alliance. In this role she led research and evaluation projects both internally and across our strategic action network. Since joining the Alliance in 2016, she has become deeply embedded in both the Advancing Equity and Educational Success impact areas through metrics coordination, content development, and facilitation of learning opportunities. Martin is an experienced convener and facilitator—she has led hundreds of social sector leaders through design sessions and learning opportunities, and she has a background in professional development and quality improvement systems in education spaces. Prior to joining the Alliance in 2016, Martin was a researcher in the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh. In this role, she partnered with various education stakeholders, including social service providers, school district administrators, policy-makers, funders, community members, educators, to infuse the theory, research, and best practices of developmental psychology into local, statewide, and national collaborations. Martin was also an adjunct instructor during her years at the University of Pittsburgh, teaching a graduate-level course in developmental psychology in the School of Education. She holds a master's in applied developmental psychology.
As part of their new positions, Hinton and Martin will join a redesigned public policy team led by Levinson to focus on a range of policy priorities in their relevant areas related to the Alliance's Blueprint for Strong Families and Communities and its 2019-2020 Federal Public Policy Agenda. Additional members of the Alliance's new team of "impact directors" include:
- Rehana Absar, director of impact for organizational excellence;
- Teri Covington, director of the Within Our Reach Office focusing on building a more prevention-focused and effective child welfare system in America;
- Undraye Howard, senior director of equity, diversity, inclusion and engagement;
- Jennifer Jones, director of the Change in Mind Institute, focusing on applying brain research to organizational practice and public policy;
- Hope Liu, director of organizational learning; and,
- Emily Merritt, director of intergenerational initiatives.
