The American Marketing Association Names United Way’s Lisa Bowman 2017 Nonprofit Marketer of the Year
CHICAGO (PRWEB) June 20, 2017 -- The American Marketing Association (AMA), the largest marketing association in the world, and the American Marketing Association Foundation (AMAF), today announced Lisa Bowman, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at United Way Worldwide, as the recipient of the 2017 Nonprofit Marketer of the Year Award.
The award recognizes one nonprofit marketer annually for their extraordinary leadership and achievement in the field of nonprofit marketing. Bowman, who oversees brand, marketing, communications and research at United Way Worldwide, was selected for her strong leadership, passion for helping others and demonstrated excellence in marketing.
“Nearly two years ago, Lisa came on board to transform United Way’s brand and increase people’s understanding of our mission and value,” said Brian Gallagher, president and CEO of United Way Worldwide. “Thanks to Lisa’s vision and willingness to challenge the status quo, we’re raising our awareness, motivating more people to engage with the issues that matter to them and becoming the place people turn to create social change in the 21st century.”
AMA/AMAF’s Nonprofit Marketer of the Year Award is the highest honor bestowed on a nonprofit marketing professional. Bowman will accept the award during the annual AMA Nonprofit Marketing Conference in Washington, DC, July 10-12.
“United Way Worldwide consistently creates marketing campaigns that embrace news ideas and truly make an impact on people’s lives,” said Russ Klein, CEO of the American Marketing Association. “Lisa is a worthy recipient of this accolade for her innovative marketing and creative executions across the nonprofit organization.”
Under Bowman’s leadership, United Way has reshaped its brand to one that today is accessible, relevant and meaningful to more people everywhere. She developed an innovative strategy to help the 130-year-old organization reposition itself in the philanthropic sector with a new brand credo that manifests itself via “Join the Fight,” a suite of public service announcements that show the realities of what happens when the basic building blocks that provide opportunity for all -- education, income and health -- aren’t accessible. Bowman also led the nationwide premier of “The Hero Effect,” a TV shows which airs on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) and partnered with Beyoncé on her Formation World Tour.
The Nonprofit Marketer of the Year award is judged by a panel of distinguished professionals. To be eligible for the Nonprofit Marketer of the Year award, nominees must be employed at a nonprofit organization with an active 501(c) category tax status and demonstrate how their work has advanced or transformed the field of nonprofit marketing in categories in vision and leadership, strategy and results.
Bowman will receive a one-year paid membership to the AMA, complimentary registration to the 2017 AMA Nonprofit Marketing Conference and a travel grant of up to $1,000. Bowman will also speak during a reserved conference session at the 2017 AMA Nonprofit Marketing Conference.
