The Center for Audiology Sponsors Walk4Hearing Walkathon
Houston, TX (PRWEB) October 15, 2014 -- The Center for Audiology is proud to announce its partnership with the Houston chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) in sponsoring the upcoming Walk4Hearing walkathon, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25 at the University of Houston. HLAA is the largest consumer advocacy organization for people with hearing loss in the U.S. and is dedicated to providing information, education, support and advocacy to enable those with hearing loss to live full and productive lives.
“The mission of the HLAA aligns perfectly with our mission of empowering and helping individuals with hearing loss,” states Dr. Sara Nagel, CEO of The Center for Audiology in the Galleria area of Houston. “Every day, I treat patients who tell me that hearing loss has caused them to become withdrawn, socially isolated, frustrated or depressed. Discovering hearing solutions literally changes their lives by re-connecting them to the world around them.”
Forty-eight million, or 20 percent, of Americans currently have some form of hearing loss, according to a Johns Hopkins study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine. Money raised by the annual Walk4Hearing helps fund programs and services for people with hearing loss, including captioning services, assistive listening devices, outreach to veterans with hearing loss returning from service, lobbying for legislation that impacts funding for hearing aids and cochlear implants, communication access in public areas and support groups for individuals and families living with hearing loss.
