The City of Frederick Maryland 60th Administration Approves Carroll Creek Park Construction
Frederick, MD (PRWEB) November 25, 2013 -- The City of Frederick is moving forward with the construction of the next phase of Carroll Creek Park. The $15M construction bid was approved and awarded to Waynesboro Construction on Thursday, November 21st and the City will hold a ground breaking event Wednesday, December 4th at 1:00 p.m. The location of the ground breaking will be Carroll Creek Park @ McCutcheon’s Apple Products. Construction is anticipated to begin in the next few weeks.
This next phase of park improvements will include new and widened multi-use paths, landscape planters, lighting, water features and crosswalk improvements. The work will occur primarily between Bentz and S. Market St and between the Delaplaine Arts Center and East Patrick Street. More than $100M in new and renovated private construction is planned along the new park/path sections which will eventually result in hundreds of new jobs and increased state and local tax revenue.
Funding for the project is provided by the City of Frederick ($8.5M), Frederick County ($0.4M), State of Maryland ($6.56M) and various developers ($0.5M).
This phase will largely complete the vision initiated 30 years ago when flooding in the Downtown forced action by the City in the form of the $65M flood control project which runs 1.3 miles through Downtown and directs water underground from City businesses and homes.
