The City of McAllen Texas Launches a Sustainable Parks Program
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) November 27, 2013 -- McAllen Texas is a city with over 50 parks in the tropical region of South Texas and is a favorite winter retreat for the snow bird vacationers from the north. Their parks, sports fields and green spaces are important, but they are faced with water quality and maintenance cost issues.
Turf Feeding Systems has just installed a fertigation system in the Jackson City/School Park and has launched a case study to document the savings and benefits of a sustainable parks program.
The program will reduce irrigation water and maintenance costs, while improving the landscape quality and creating the best park in South Texas.
The park is faced with high sodium in the irrigation water, which is common in the region. Sodium is an invisible problem facing many landscapes. It builds up in the soil and stresses the grass and the trees.
The nutrient program for the park will specifically include Sodium Blocker, a product to treat the sodium in the soil, as well as irrigation water. Sodium Blocker is a liquid product that is mixed with the fertilizer and injected with the fertigation system to treat the entire park.
The sustainable program will improve the plant and soil health to create a more efficient plant and root system. This program will reduce water use, as well as reduce fertilizer, chemicals, labor and energy, while improving grass quality.
The case study will show before and after results as well as document the savings possible on the eight acre park.
The McAllen parks managers are looking at this program to reduce maintenance costs on parks and sports fields across the city and are excited to become the first sustainable parks program in South Texas.
