The Cochran Firm, D.C. Announces $1.026 Million Verdict on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Personal Injury Lawsuit
Washington, D.C (PRWEB) October 21, 2013 -- The Cochran Firm, D.C. today announces that David Haynes, its managing partner, secured a $1.026 million verdict on Oct. 10, 2013, in the case of Michael and Amanda Spence v. Thomas E. Shockley, et al., Case No. 22-C-11-001912 MT, in the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, Maryland. Wicomico County is a venue commonly thought to be an unreceptive jurisdiction where significant verdicts are rare. The jury found that two defendants were negligent when they towed a farm implement that extended far into their adjacent road lane. Because of glare from the light of the vehicle towing the equipment and low visibility during the sunset hours, the plaintiff alleged he was unable to see the equipment infringing into his lane when he tragically collided with the farming equipment. The defense contended they had the right to be in the other lane due to width exemptions for farm equipment.
According to court documents, despite towing wide equipment that occupied space in the lane next to his vehicle, the defendant neglected to use a wide load sign or a lead car to prevent the accident that tragically occurred. In the collision, the court documents state that the injured victim suffered serious injuries, including the permanent loss of an eye. His wife, who was a passenger in the vehicle, suffered a fractured hip.
