Continuing its mission to empower youth through education, The Foundation for Global Sports Development (GSD) today announced the ten winners of its 2023 Exceptional Youth Scholarship (EYS). Since 2015, the award has recognized high school seniors who have shown a commitment to both academics and community service. The 2023 Exceptional Youth Scholarship recipients will each receive a $10,000 award to help offset tuition and other associated expenses of attending a US-based four-year college or university.
LOS ANGELES, May 31, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Continuing its mission to empower youth through education, The Foundation for Global Sports Development (GSD) today announced the ten winners of its 2023 Exceptional Youth Scholarship (EYS). Since 2015, the award has recognized high school seniors who have shown a commitment to both academics and community service.
The 2023 Exceptional Youth Scholarship recipients will each receive a $10,000 award to help offset tuition and other associated expenses of attending a US-based four-year college or university. The ten outstanding students to be awarded this year are:
- Sedona Jade Bermudez – Cibola High School (Yuma, AZ) – University of Arizona
- Connor Chavez – Sage Creek High School (Carlsbad, CA) – New York University
- Jackson Dutcher – Natrona County High School (Casper, WY) – South Dakota State University
- Andrea Gaona – Wilson High School (Long Beach, CA) – UC Santa Barbara
- Leo Garcia-O'Leary – Gretchen Whitney High School (Artesia, CA) – UC Irvine
- Steeler Leep – Fairland High School (Proctorville, OH) – Northwood University
- Kaitlin Lewis – View Park Preparatory High School (Los Angeles, CA) – UC Santa Barbara
- Miguel A. Maya – Healdsburg High School (Healdsburg, CA) – Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
- Myrah Munoz – Coconino High School (Flagstaff, AZ) – Northern Arizona University
- Rogelio Vega – Healdsburg High School (Healdsburg, CA) – San Jose State University
"We believe students who have prioritized their education and shown up for their communities deserve to be recognized for their efforts. It's a privilege to reward these hard-working young men and women as they begin their college careers," said David Ulich, executive board member of The Foundation for Global Sports Development. The next EYS cycle will open in March 2024. Like previous years, applicants will be evaluated on academics, character, leadership, and service.
