The Foundation for Global Sports Development continues its tradition of supporting academic achievement by awarding $10,000 Exceptional Youth Scholarships to ten outstanding students. The scholarships are conferred to graduating high school seniors who excel in school and community-service involvement. The award helps defray tuition, housing, books, and other on-campus related expenses at accredited, four-year colleges and universities in the United States.
LOS ANGELES, July 5, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- "We had over 250 applications for our Exceptional Youth Scholarship this cycle," said Dr. Steven Ungerleider, executive board member for the foundation. "Every applicant should be commended. These students faced a challenge no cohort before them ever has: staying dedicated to their studies in a world turned upside down by changing Covid protocols. They dealt with online schooling, and once back in the classroom, remained focused on their work despite the potential of catching, or transmitting, a serious virus."
David Ulich, executive board member of GSD, said "Education is one of our core values and these students' commitment to academic excellence as a path to higher education is admirable. We're honored to support the Exceptional Youth Scholarship recipients as they continue their journey."
The selection committee looked beyond academics to also consider financial needs, community service, leadership, and personal experiences.
